Baramulla, Dec 28: The two-day 6th District Baramulla Taekwondo Championships was successfully held at the JKSC Indoor Sports Complex, Khwajabagh, with participation of over 130 athletes from across the district in sub-junior, junior and senior categories.
The two-day championship, as per a statement issued by Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, was organised by the Taekwondo Association of District Baramulla under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council and the J&K Taekwondo Association.
The championship commenced with an impressive opening ceremony, graced by DIG North Kashmir Shri Maqsood ul Zaman (IPS) as Chief Guest and Ms Neha Jain (IPS) as Guest of Honour.
Congratulating the athletes and organisers, Maqsood ul Zaman appreciated the initiative for creating a healthy competitive environment and said that such championships are essential in identifying talent and motivating youth towards disciplined sporting pursuits. He noted that sports provide a constructive platform for young people while contributing to overall social development.
The championship provided equal exposure to athletes from both rural and urban areas of the district, ensuring that talent from far-flung regions receives the same opportunities as those from urban centers. Such inclusive participation highlights the ongoing efforts to bridge gaps in access to sports infrastructure and competition across Jammu & Kashmir.
The gold medalists selected during the event will represent District Baramulla at the forthcoming J&K UT Taekwondo Championships, further strengthening the competitive pathway for young athletes.
The conduct of the championship also reflects the growing impact of grassroots sports development initiatives, including Khelo India Centres, PMDP Centres, and J&K Sports Council in-house training centers, which are playing a vital role in nurturing talent, providing quality coaching, and creating sustained competition opportunities for youth across the region.
The successful organization of the 6th District Baramulla Taekwondo Championships stands as another milestone in promoting taekwondo and strengthening a vibrant, inclusive sports culture in Jammu & Kashmir, with equal focus on rural and urban youth development.
