Helping Hands on Wheels: Free E-Rickshaw Service for Patients in Baramulla

A youngster from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has launched a free night-time e-rickshaw service to help patients travel from old town Baramulla to GMC Baramulla during medical emergencies.

Yasir Naik said the initiative is meant to assist residents who often struggle to find transport after dark, especially in localities where lifting facilities or vehicles are not available.

Naik said the initiative reflects his broader approach to community-focused leadership. He stressed that no patient should be left waiting for help due to lack of transport, and that timely mobility can save lives.

“The service will operate throughout the night and will remain free for all patients, regardless of their background or financial situation,” he said.

He said that to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations, four drivers have been placed on duty for night-long service which includes Javid Ahmad Bhat (7889696339), Tanveer Ahmad Bhat (6006060741), Aamir Bashir (9149444942) and Showkat Ahmad Mir (7006595872).

Residents say the service fills a long-standing gap in night-time medical mobility. Families living in the densely populated old town often face delays reaching the hospital in emergencies, especially during winter nights or sudden health crises.

This initiative is expected to bring immediate relief and strengthen community-level support systems. Locals have appreciated the effort, noting that such steps reflect a grounded understanding of public needs.
