Jammu, Feb 10: The Leader of Opposition (LOP) in J&K Legislature Sunil Sharma on Tuesday, in a direct dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, stated that he (CM) could participate in the sports events in old Srinagar city only, post Article 370.
Participating in the general discussion on the J&K budget for the year 2026-27 presented by the Chief Minister on February 6, 2026 in the Legislative Assembly, the LOP, in his hard-hitting address, also accused the elected government of passing the buck to the Centre to hide its failures.
ìIn fact, the government lacked will and intent to deliver to fulfill its big promises made to J&K people. Their budget disappointed all sections of the society. They ditched the unemployed youth and they also cheated daily wagers. Whenever the opposition questions them (government), it, in turn, starts questioning the Union government, alleging that it was not allowing them to work. You put the ball in Delhiís court to hide your failures,î he said.
The LOP said that the government was elected to deliver on its promises. ìYou have MPs in the Parliament to question the central government,î he said.
Sunil Sharma alleged that the budget lacked vision as its 80 percent portion only mentioned central schemes.
He also questioned, “Where is your earlier employment policy announced for the youth in your previous tenure, named after Sheikh Abdullah?”
ìYou donít have the intent and will to perform. It is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had the will to heal the wounds of terror victims suffering for the past several years. Modiji with one order ensured jobs to them in one go. It all started with a little girl in Anantnag sharing her plight with the Lieutenant Governor,î LoP said.
NC members countered him saying that the policy was started by the NC president Farooq Abdullah, when he was the Chief Minister.
Sunil Sharma mocked, ìOne MLA also recommended 13 cases to the LG Sahib and he (LG) gave jobs to them.î
With regard to daily wagers, he alleged that the NC government only befooled them.
ìIíll thank LG Sahib for regularizing their salaries,î he said.
He asked the government about its plans for the industrial sector, education sector.
ìYou have to give answers to even people in Kashmir, where the terror victims are ambassadors of Bharat. This happened after Article 370 abrogation. Those who used to say that even 2 inch of land would not be given for Amarnath, now are announcing funding for its track in the budget. This also happened after Article 370,î he said.
This irked NC members who rose to protest. Minister for Transport Satish Sharma too joined them in opposing the remarks of LOP.
Sharma said, ìThey repeatedly talk about special status as they want to revive the era of violence. They again want to see Kashmir burning, India on fire. There is one MLA who is challenging the Indian Constitution and lauding the US Constitution. They are enemies of Ladakh and Kargil as they (NC MLAs) raise bogey of demography change though majority of outsiders, who have bought land here are from Ladakh
