New Delhi, Mar 25: Akashvani will begin broadcasting the full six-stanza version of the national song Vande Mataram from March 26, replacing the shorter two-stanza rendition traditionally aired since Independence.
The move follows guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs in January 2026.
The new version will run for 3 minutes and 10 seconds, compared to the earlier 65-second format. The initial broadcast will feature a rendition by noted classical vocalist Chandrashekhar Vaze in Raag Des. Akashvani is also recording multiple regional versions of the song, incorporating diverse musical styles and instruments, which will be aired by stations across different states.
