Srinagar, Mar 31: As part of its efforts to conserve environment, the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) formally adopted Government Higher Secondary School Soura, marking the occasion with a plantation drive held on the retirement of Firdous Ali Principal of the school.
The event was not just a ceremonial farewell but a message of responsibility, continuity, and environmental stewardship. Chairman NLCO, Manzoor Wangnoo, stated that the organisation will take long term responsibility for nurturing and protecting the plantation within the school premises, ensuring that the initiative grows into a sustainable green asset for future generations.
The programme witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities including Qazi Imran, Dr G N Itoo, Dr Saleem Beg, Prof Altaf Sahib, Dr Tawseef Bhat, Nadeem, Aadil, Rifat Qadri CEO Budgam, Nusrat Bukhari former Principal GHSS Kothibagh, Prof Dr Bilal Rafiq Shah, Hilal Ahmad Bhat, and noted Urdu scholar Javed Ahmad Mattoo, along with members of NLCO and the local community.
Speaking on the occasion, Qazi Imran beautifully summed up the essence of the event by highlighting environmental responsibility in the light of Islamic teachings. He emphasised that caring for nature is a moral and spiritual duty, and initiatives like these reflect a deeper commitment to both faith and society.
NLCO appreciated the active participation of the local community, stating that such involvement is essential for the long term success and sustainability of environmental initiatives.
Describing the gesture as a living legacy, Wangnoo said that the plantation drive symbolises a new beginning for Firdous Ali, whose contributions to education and society will continue to inspire. He added that NLCO looks forward to his continued guidance, particularly in the areas of education and environmental awareness.
