Rajouri, Apr 7: Unseasonal rain lashed several districts of the Jammu region while upper reaches received light snowfall on Tuesday, causing a sharp dip in temperatures and surprising residents with winter-like conditions in April.
Adding to the unexpected shift, upper reaches of these districts have also reported light snowfall, an occurrence considered rare for the month of April, which has traditionally been associated with rising temperatures and warmer conditions.
Locals said that sudden weather changes have led to a significant dip in temperature, bringing back a winter-like chill that has caught people off guard.
Many residents said the cold conditions feel out of place for this time of the year, when the region usually experiences a transition towards summer.
Expressing concern and surprise over the changing weather patterns, a local resident from the area Subash Chander, said the continuous rain and cold winds have disrupted normal life.
He said that frequent weather disturbances are causing heavy rainfall which has almost reversed the weather pattern, bringing back winter-like conditions.
Another local Anis Ahmed described the situation as “highly unusual” for April.
“The abrupt climatic shift has not only affected daily routines but has also sparked discussions among residents about changing weather trends, with many questioning the increasing unpredictability of seasonal patterns in the region,” Anis stated.
As per available reports, all the areas of Jammu province received rainfall on Tuesday, with the upper reaches of districts Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Ramban, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Kathua receiving light snowfall.
