In a rare achievement, Suhail Mehraj, a young scholar hailing from Ganderbal, has been selected for the prestigious Rappaport Public Policy Summer Fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University — one of the most competitive and respected fellowships in the field of public policy in the United States.
The fellowship, run by the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston, places graduate students in high-level policy internships with state and local agencies in the Boston area. It is awarded to students from Harvard and other select universities who demonstrate strong commitment to public service and policy innovation.
For Suhail, whose roots lie in Ganderbal, this achievement is the result of years of dedication to the field of public policy, with a particular passion for education.
Being selected for the Rappaport Fellowship places Suhail among an accomplished group of fellows a cohort that goes on to lead and influence public policy across the world.
“Suhail’s selection is not just a personal milestone, it is a moment of pride for Ganderbal and for Jammu and Kashmir at large. At a time when young people from the J&K are increasingly making their mark on the global stage, achievements like these serve as a reminder of the immense talent and potential that J&K holds,” said a local resident.
As Suhail prepares to embark on this chapter at one of the world’s most storied institutions, his journey stands as an inspiration to the many young men and women of Jammu and Kashmir who dare to dream beyond boundaries. “ It is a proud moment for me and I am so glad and thrilled to have this opportunity,“ Suhail told Greater Kashmir.
The fellow will work on a summer-long public policy project and take part in leadership workshops at the Kennedy School. The Rappaport Fellowship was established in 2000 and is considered one of the most competitive public service fellowships in the U.S. for policy students.
