Srinagar, Apr 26: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah Sunday underscored that the true measure of a nation’s progress lies in its ability to nurture unity, uphold collective dignity and align governance with the lived aspirations of its people.
These views were expressed by the President of the National Conference, Dr Farooq Abdullah while addressing a gathering. He said that the fundamental duty of leadership is to guide the nation in the right direction and keep the people united. He expressed regret that various governments at the Centre have, unfortunately, always tried to divide the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Through policies of fragmenting society into small groups, creating a leader in every household and establishing artificial political parties, not only was the collective voice weakened, but the basic rights of the people were also curtailed.
He stated that the people of Kashmir have responded strongly to such conspiracies from time to time. In particular, during the 2025 elections, the people demonstrated political wisdom by rejecting those forces that continued to exploit public sentiments for personal gains. By placing their trust in their historic and ideological party, the National Conference, the people clearly conveyed that they would never accept politics of horse-trading and opportunistic leadership.
Dr Farooq further said that those elements who, for the sake of power, facilitated the abrogation of the region’s special status and its division have been politically rejected by the people. He urged the younger generation to study history in depth and understand how the National Conference and its leadership, through revolutionary measures, led people out of poverty, backwardness, deprivation, and hardship toward a dignified life. He said that the history of the National Conference is one of sacrifices, struggle, and public service, which is why conspiracies are still being hatched against it. However, by the grace of Almighty Allah and with the full support of the people, the party has emerged successful from every trial and will continue to represent the aspirations of the people in the future.
