Authorities seal Siraj-ul-Uloom premises after being declared unlawful

Shopian, Apr 27: Authorities on Monday attached the Siraj-ul-Uloom in south Kashmir’s Shopian district and restricted access to its premises following an order by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir declaring the institution an unlawful association under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

A prohibitory order issued by the District Magistrate Shopian under Section 8(4) of the Act stated that entry into the notified place has been barred. “No person who is not a resident of Darul Uloom Jamia Siraj-ul-Uloom, Imam Sahib, Shopian, shall enter or remain on the said premises without prior permission,” the order said.

It added that “any person found entering or being present in the notified place in contravention of this order shall be liable to removal and face penal action under relevant provisions of law.”

The order also outlined conditions, including exceptions for near relatives and regulation of conduct for permitted entry, stating that those allowed inside must comply with restrictions imposed by the district magistrate.
