Srinagar, Jan 28: An awareness programme was conducted today at Central Jail Srinagar by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, under the guidance of Chairman DLSA and Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, Haq Nawaz Zargar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA, Srinagar.
The objective of the programme was to sensitise inmates about the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for premature release, parole and furlough, and the legal rights of prisoners. During the programme, Deputy Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Jahan Ara, elaborated in detail on the procedures, eligibility criteria, and documentation required for seeking premature release, parole and furlough, enabling the inmates to better understand the legal remedies available to them.
Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel highlighted the constitutional and legal rights of prisoners, including access to legal aid, humane treatment, and the right to seek redressal through appropriate legal forums.
The inmates were encouraged to avail free legal services provided by DLSA Srinagar.
The interactive session witnessed active participation from the inmates, who raised queries related to their cases, which were duly addressed by the resource persons.
The programme was organised as part of DLSA Srinagarís ongoing efforts to ensure access to justice for all, particularly for vulnerable and marginalised sections of society, including prisoners.
