The war in the middle east is only spreading out. Despite haughty claims of those who started this war, bombing Iran and assassinating its top leadership; claims that the war will end soon, it looks like that the stage is set to witness a long drawn military clash. The strategic, military, and economic analyses of this war on one side, its moral and ethical evaluation is needed. In an age where technology has made wars look like games, the brutality of war is getting blurred. The attack on a school in Minab and the death of children is a reminder that wars finally kill humans. The bluster of power hungry people cannot hide the ugly reality of this war. The liberal ideas and the higher ideals of human rights have been blown to bits in this war. Something that could have been easily resolved through negotiations was never resolved through negotiations. And now it looks like that the war was waged for its own purpose.
A power intoxicated mindset, and deeply entrenched military industrial complex, a false narrative of someone being a perennial threat and someone eternally reserving the right to attack – all this finally has pushed the world into a frenzy that looks like a demonic swirl.
Unfortunately, no transnational institution wields any influence to stop this war. More unfortunately we have no impressive voices that could rally the global opinion against this war. An interminable lust to control the world, display military power, and indulge in all sorts of moral vice – it looks like humanity has been sent on a permanent exile from this planet.
It is time for people all over globe, rising above all identity markers, to stand up against this barbaric display of power. It is time to question the leaders whose insane rhetoric has pushed this world into a dizzying chaos. It is time to question the political leaders, media houses, and influencers whose ceaseless propaganda against a particular community, or a particular nation, or a particular political leadership has filled the entire space with hate and toxic responses. It is time to make real effort to restore our humanity.
