PM Modi speaks to Sri Lankan President, assures support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening spoke over phone with the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, expressing deep condolences over the loss of lives and extensive damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

The Prime Minister conveyed that the people of India “stand in firm solidarity” with Sri Lanka during this difficult time, and assured full support in relief and recovery efforts. President Dissanayake thanked India for its swift assistance, particularly highlighting the rapid deployment of rescue teams and relief material. He conveyed the gratitude of the Sri Lankan people for India’s prompt and effective response.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed that India’s support would continue under Operation Sagar Bandhu, which is currently engaged in providing rescue and humanitarian relief to affected communities. He reiterated that, in line with Vision MAHASAGAR and India’s established role as the First Responder in the region, New Delhi will extend all necessary assistance as Sri Lanka moves toward rehabilitation, restoration of essential services, and revival of livelihoods.
