Poonch, Mar 24: Poonch Police on Tuesday have apprehended five absconding proclaimed offenders evading arrest for “considerable time” in connection with multiple criminal cases, police officials said.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said, “In a significant operation against proclaimed offenders, Police Station Surankote, under the close supervision of SDPO Surankote, has successfully apprehended five absconders who had been evading arrest for a considerable period in connection with various criminal cases.”
The spokesperson identified the arrested persons as Basharat Hussain, son of Mohd Bashir, a resident of Sangla, Surankote, who was involved in FIR No. 207/2018 under Sections 452, 382, 148, 324, 325 and 147 RPC and had been declared an absconder on December 3, 2024.
The other accused include Mohd Iqbal, son of Mohd Sharief; Ghulam Ahmed, son of Bagh Hussain; and Mohd Sharief, son of Fateh Mohd, a Gujjar by caste, all residents of Hari, Surankote, who were involved in FIR No. 284/2018 under Sections 452, 147, 148, 324 and 323 RPC and had been declared absconders on December 29, 2018.
Another accused, Mohd Akram, son of Abdullah, a resident of Sangla, Surankote, was involved in FIR No. 243/2012 under Sections 341, 323 and 324 RPC and had been declared an absconder on March 30, 2017.
Special police teams were constituted under the supervision of SHO Surankote, with overall supervision of SDPO Surankote. Acting on specific and credible inputs and through sustained efforts, the teams successfully tracked and apprehended the accused persons who had been absconding for several years, the spokesperson said.
All arrested individuals have been produced before the competent court of law for further legal proceedings, he said.
District Police Poonch reiterated its firm commitment to upholding the rule of law and taking strict action against absconders and individuals involved in criminal activities.
