New Delhi, Mar 5: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday accepted the resignation of C V Ananda Bose as Governor of West Bengal and approved a major reshuffle involving several Governors and Lieutenant Governors across the country.
According to a communiqué issued by the President’s Secretariat, the President also made multiple new appointments and transfers to constitutional posts in various states and Union Territories.
As per the announcement, Shiv Pratap Shukla, presently Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana. Jishnu Dev Varma, currently serving as Governor of Telangana, has been appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra, while Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
In another significant appointment, Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain has been named the Governor of Bihar. The communiqué further said that R N Ravi, presently Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the Governor of West Bengal following Bose’s resignation. Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Kerala, will discharge the functions of Governor of Tamil Nadu. In the Union Territories, Kavinder Gupta, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Further, former Indian diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. The communiqué said that the appointments will take effect from the dates the respective appointees assume charge of their offices. Meanwhile, Bose’s resignation comes after he served as the Governor of West Bengal for about three-and-a-half years since his appointment in 2022. The reshuffle marks one of the major administrative changes involving Governors and Lieutenant Governors across several states and Union Territories in recent months.
