Rajouri, Apr 7: A Class 10 student from a remote village in Budhal sub-division of Rajouri has developed functional models of an earth excavation machine and a mini hydropower project using household materials.
Sixteen-year-old Zahid Ali, son of Mohammad Hafeez, has achieved this feat without any formal technical support or access to advanced tools, highlighting his ingenuity and determination at a grassroots level.
According to Zahid, he has nurtured an interest in creative and technical work since childhood.
Working entirely from home and relying on locally available materials, he successfully designed and constructed a detailed model of a earth excavation machine.
The model reflects a clear understanding of mechanical structure and basic engineering concepts.
In addition, the young student has also built a small-scale hydel power model by channelling water from a nearby stream.
The project, though still in a developing stage, is already capable of generating electricity.
The produced power is being stored through basic wiring, and Zahid has demonstrated its practical use by operating a mobile charger.
Zahid stated that both the achievement are noteworthy because of the fact that models have been created at the household level, without external funding, laboratory support, or institutional guidance.
Zahid expressed his desire to continue working on scientific innovations and stated that with proper mentorship and resources, he aims to undertake more advanced projects in the future.
The achievement has drawn attention across Targain village, with residents visiting his home to witness the working models.
Locals have hailed his efforts, stating that he has brought recognition to the village and set an example for other students from rural backgrounds.
