Iran declares Strait of Hormuz ‘completely open’ during ceasefire period

New Delhi, Apr 17: Iran has announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to commercial shipping for the remainder of the ongoing ceasefire, according to a report by BBC.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the waterway had been “declared completely open” for the duration of the truce. In a statement posted on X, he said, “In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire.”

He added that shipping would continue “on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran.”

The announcement comes a day after US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
