The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Provincial President Kashmir, Showkat Ahmad Mir has dismissed PDP’s claims about Urdu’s removal as baseless, reaffirming that the language remains central to the region’s curriculum and administration.
As per a party press release, Mir said the National Conference-led government does not make decisions to appease its “masters” unlike the previous PDP administration. “Every decision of our government is guided by the interests of Jammu & Kashmir, public aspirations and democratic principles,” he added.
Criticizing the PDP, he noted that its government implemented the SARFAESI Act and GST in the region primarily to satisfy its masters, which, he argued, harmed the local economy.
In contrast, the National Conference has not and will not take such blind measures. Mir further accused the PDP of raising a hue and cry over Urdu to divert attention from its support to the BJP in Rajya Sabha elections.
He clarified that no decision has been made to remove Urdu from the curriculum or recruitment processes, emphasizing its vital role, particularly in revenue department matters, which makes any change impractical.
“Urdu continues to be part of both education and recruitment frameworks, and any attempt to alter this would disrupt administrative functioning,”he added.
Urging party workers to prepare for upcoming panchayat and municipal elections, Mir stressed the importance of presenting capable, educated, and credible candidates dedicated to public service.
Highlighting the Omar Abdullah-led government’s pro-public initiatives, he said all available resources are being fully mobilized for the welfare of the people, and the government’s achievements over the past one and a half years must be communicated to every household.
